“Once we saw him juggling the hermit crabs in his tank, another time he threw stones against the glass damaging it. And from time to time he completely re-arranges his tank to make it suit his own taste better - much to the distress of his fellow tank inhabitants.”

How long does one wait before liberating an apparently abandoned bike frame from its u-lock?
Someone stripped the wheels off of it this past week, and its been sitting on the bike rack in front of my apartment, lonely in the cold. It has a decently good frame (I think?), so I’m worried that it’s someone’s expensive fixie/track bike. On the other hand though, I really need a bike and the owner may have just abandoned it…
Oh, and I have a cordless angle grinder which I’ve kind of been dying to use. :3
Help?
- Don Norman
He was completely, absolutely inspirational.
Honne/Tatemae: In Japanese culture, honne (本音) is a person’s true feelings and desires that’s only shown to close friends, and tatemae (建前) is the more socially acceptible “face” you show to others.
They’re not always in conflict, and sometimes showing the correct tatemae can help you to fufill your honne. In addition, tatemae isn’t viewed as dishonesty (like it probably would be in American culture), just a form of showing restraint and a necessary tool for getting along in such a small nation. It’s a pretty complex idea (which makes it the basis for countless Japanese tv shows lol), and to some extent, Americans do it too… we just don’t have a name for it.
