^ IL Breaks V
On April 5th, DJ Franco De Leon set up in the Illini Union, and U of I had itself a nice little breakdancing competition. Some of the best crews in Chicago were there, as well as breakers from all over the Midwest. It was the best competition UC Hip Hop had ever put on, and I, for one, was still feeling the love…
I met a ton of badass people, took a ton of (somewhat) badass pictures, and had the rare opportunity to do it all over again at Madison’s upcoming event. Breakin’ the Law: 5inal Sentence was this Friday, and I had a pretty tough decision to make: a solo four hour (according to Google Maps) road trip forgoing any studying versus a breakdancing competition…

UW Madison is 80% white.
Going from a breakdancing competition to walking around the main drag of campus town was kind of a shock.

“ I loved it. I didn’t care what I was playing. I got off on being on the air, because one man’s Creed is another man’s Stone Roses. There was somebody aching for me to play Creed, and when I did, it was the best thing that happened to them for the next couple of hours. I loved just being on the air. Best job in the world. „

Josh Venable, the DFW dj responsible for the best radio show ever: Josh’s Adventure Club.

I discovered KDGE and Josh during the middle of seventh grade, and my life (and love for music) was changed ever since then. (Read: I heard The Smiths.) I put him on almost every Sunday evening from seventh grade untill I moved out of Texas. By the time senior year hit, he was one of the only reasons I would turn on the radio- there was always a great playlist, a band I haven’t yet heard of, and some amazing Adventure-Club-only performances.

He has since left the area (fuck you, Clear Channel), but the Adventure Club is still going strong in LA, every Sunday from 7-10 pm WST.

/edit: I removed the embedded player because it was annoying. Adult Swim, for the record, autoplay is bad =/ You can stream the music here.

Ghostly Swim

Alright, so it’s not a video, but just as sweet… above is a streaming player of Adult Swim’s (yeah, what?) newest album: an excellent chillout collaboration with Ghostly International, which you can download for free.

Definitely check out track 7, Deastro - Light Powered. Happy listening =)

TED | Rives: Is 4 a.m. the new midnight?

While we’re on the topic of TED, this is probably one of my favorite talks. Also, think about that one recent primaries commercial…

TED: Vilayanur Ramachandran - A Journey to the Center of Your Mind

Interesting and ingenius talk about Capgras Syndrome, phantom limbs, and synesthesia… and the possible scientific root of creativity.

Oh, great. Do I really want this?
